Member Jungle and the RBA Surcharge Changes 1st October 2026
Significant changes are being introduced by both the Reserve Bank and the ACCC in Australia regarding how prices are advertised and how surcharges are added to transactions. The aim is to make pricing simple and transparent for all Australians so that the advertised price is what is charged, irrespective of payment method.
From the 1st of October 2026, surcharges cannot be added to Visa, Mastercard or EFTPOS payments (and we expect more to follow based on the ACCC's intent). Businesses and organisations must include all fees and surcharges in advertised prices.
As an Australian Member Jungle customer using Stripe or the Member Jungle Payment gateway, you will need to advertise the price a customer (member) will pay upfront.
To remain compliant with these directives, between now and the 1st of October, we suggest you do the following:
- Change your Service Fees Type from Pass On to Absorb (Organisation Settings → Payment and Gateway Setup)
- Remove any Payment Surcharges added to your Payment Methods (in Payment Settings in most modules)
- Increase your prices to cover fees and surcharges passed onto your members
The third step, increasing prices, is very important, so your club is not out of pocket. You can start implementing these changes now.
We will not enforce these changes, but we suggest you do this to ensure your organisation is compliant (and your members are happy). Please seek your own legal or accounting advice if you are unsure what to do.
