Membership Management That Doesn’t Cost The Planet

Recently, when freediving at one of my local beaches, I stumbled upon a large, heavy metal object. I have no clue what it was; it was just extremely heavy. You can see it in the picture below; it's the big thing right at the back. 
 

 

All the other rubbish I found that day, I just popped into the net that hangs off my float. This thing was so heavy I couldn’t swim with it. So, instead, I had to dive down, pick it up, and then walk along the ocean floor backwards because I was wearing massive freediving fins. Then, I would eventually run out of breath, so I’d have to put it gently down, swim back to the surface, breathe up again, and repeat. All in all, it took me about 20 minutes to get it out of the sea.  

It was a little like that scene in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, except much more uncoordinated and with physics that actually made sense. 

 

 

I mention this because I did this as part of the Member Jungle Big Clean Up. 

The Big Clean was a brand new Member Jungle initiative to help clean up some of the local environment and green spaces that we all love so much. So, this year, when the Summer holidays had ended, and all the vacationers went home, the Member Jungle team went out to their local beaches, parks and green spaces to clean up as much of the rubbish as they could. 

This went really well, with a lot of harmful rubbish removed from the natural environment and the food chain disposed of properly.

This was the first year that we tried to do this, and it went really well. If everything goes according to plan, we will do it again next year. Next year, we’d love to get some of the clubs we work with involved as well, so keep your eyes out for more information on that when it eventually arrives.
