Is My Data Safe If My Club Uses Member Jungle?

Date:

Keeping your online data safe and secure is extremely important. Trust the wrong site, fall for a scam and suddenly, your personal information can be in the hands of data brokers and scammers. In the wrong hands, your data can tell complete strangers an awful lot about you, things you certainly wouldn't be comfortable with them knowing, including your age, address, gender, sexuality, hobbies, friends and a lot more. Too many people already know that I’m a woman in her late twenties with the hobbies of someone in their late 90s, and I don’t need some scammers to find out, too.

All this to say that being careful with your data online is extremely important, and it is only natural for you to be a little bit wary of Member Jungle and what that means for your data.

So, today, let’s talk about Member Jungle and how we keep your data safe. If you are an admin of a club reading this, this article is designed to be from the perspective of members, so you may prefer to read the below two articles:

What Does Member Jungle Do With Your Data?

The short answer is nothing. We keep your data secure so your club or association can use it to organise its membership. We do not view or access your data unless to assist your club in support, we will never contact you using the data you give your organisation, and we will never sell your data.

Our Privacy Policy explicitly states, “We will never, ever sell your personal information to anyone.”

You should also check the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy of your club or association. They should have both clearly displayed on their website, and if they don’t ask them to.

Does Member Jungle Store My Credit Card Details?

As Member Jungle enables your club or association to accept online payments for membership renewals, event tickets and merch, you may be wondering what we do with your credit card information.

The Member Jungle payment gateway is built on top of the Stripe payment gateway. Stripe is one of the leading global payment gateways, with bank-level data protection and the highest level of PCI Certification (Payment Card Industry).

During the processing step of a transaction processed via Stripe, additional fraud checks are performed against that card and the nature of the transaction.

Member Jungle does not store credit or payment data on our systems. If a member ‘stores’ or saves their credit or debit card, all information is stored at Stripe (with all their protection). We only store a link that can be used to charge that card for future transactions (if you decide to store it), and only from your Club’s Member Jungle website.

We also limit the number of payments, successful or not, that can be transacted in a period of time.

How Does Member Jungle Protect Your Data?

We have over 20 years of experience in the web hosting and security industry. Our hosting division, AusTiger Hosting, collaborates with government agencies and large organisations across Australia and the Pacific. We have undergone audits and received certifications from reputable authorities, including the ACT Government.

Data security is an integral part of our company's DNA; we remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding our customers' data, fueled by a healthy dose of necessary paranoia to keep us at the top of our game.

Member Jungle uses a variety of different methods to encode and protect your data. Not only do we adhere to the industry standards, but we go above and beyond and always apply the best practices, not just what is legally required of us.

Essentially, if the industry standard is to install a standard key lock on the door, we do that and then add a deadbolt for extra security, along with a metaphorical Rottweiler behind the door to ensure it is as secure as possible.

At Member Jungle, we use both Two-way Data Encryption and One-way Data Encryption to ensure the best level of security. Two-way encryption allows data to be encrypted, stored or transferred and then decrypted back to its original state. One-way encryption (or hashing) allows data to be encrypted but can never be returned to its original state.

Any data moving between our servers and your web browser or mobile app is completely encrypted. This is done using SSL web traffic encryption, which ensures the data is encrypted end to end, making it much more secure. We also encrypt the majority of data at rest. That is the data that is stored in the database used by your club or association.

Beyond that, we use multiple levels of firewalls, two-factor authentication, and a system designed to be isolated from itself. So, if there is a hack on one part of the system, the rest of the system will remain secure, like bulkheads on a ship.

What Else You Need To Know About Your Data Security

All that is to say that the team behind Member Jungle has been in the hosting game for a long time, and we are paranoid about security. We have higher levels of data protection than is legally required of us, because why do things in half measures? We don’t store your payment information, we don’t sell data, and we won’t use your data to contact you.

Also, it’s worth noting that your club or association will have thoroughly looked into this before signing on with us and wouldn’t have done so if they weren’t comfortable with our data security.
